What I Think I Know

by Damien Del Russo

Wednesday, December 14th

The trip to AC went well, with a nice $300 profit after expenses. Since then I've been on a little run online, winning another $400 or so in about 10 hands. Very nice when poker treats you well. Also, playing ring games is so much different because after a big hand, you have the cash rather than just more tournament chips. You can pull that money off the table right away, which is much preferable to sitting there for 4 more hours hoping to get lucky enough to make the final table. I still feel I have an advantage in multi-table tournaments, but I may have an even better on playing no limit ring. I certainly haven't been outplayed after the flop in a while, which is how you want to play.

Hoping to see some movies soon. Chronicles of Narnia looks good, and Kong comes out this week.

The Del Ru Daily

Interesting couple of days. On Friday, TIE shot up almost 5% before careening down to hit my stop at 70. My fill was at under $69 per share - wow! That's slippage! Still I was happy to get out. It fell 10% or so on Monday, then showed a little strengh. Since I liked it at 74 I really like it at 64, so I re-bought on Tuesday.

Otherwise the portfolio is shaping up pretty well. I still have Apple at half my portfolio, followed by "two parts" Yahoo and "one part" each of the others shown below. I have my eye on Google and Starbucks, but I'm really unwilling to sell off my "core shares" of Apple. If Starbucks breaks 32, though, I may just have to. Google could go FAR up or FAR down, so I am just kind of watching for now.

In any case I am using 5% stops on all my stocks. That means I re-adjust my stop loss order UP when the stock rises, but I don't really drop them when the stock goes down. The idea is that as long as the stock doesn't make a significant down move, I am in. Once it moves down 5%, I have some cash and I can reevaluate as necessary.
