What I Think I Know

by Damien Del Russo

Tuesday, November 8th

Kate Bush has a new double album out! The name is Aerial. I, of course, bought it right away. Imagine my surprise when, two nights ago, I was listening to Radio Paradise internet radio (via iTunes) and I heard an unfamiliar tune from the unmistakeable Kate. For those who don't know, I am a HUGE Kate Bush fan, from way back in High School. I even have TWO LoveHounds T-Shirts. I barely listen to her any more, since she hasn't had a new album in over 10 years, but I am an eternally devoted fan. This is great!

Review forthcoming.

The weather has just been perfect. Saturday I took apart the 10x10' deck that I had used for my Gazebo. Apparently our Coop administration believes that a big patch of dirt and a two big piles of wood looks better that a flat wooden deck. That wouldn't surprise me, given that they consistently make the objectively WRONG aesthetic decisions at every opportunity. But they're a nice old lot and they'll all die sooner or later so I don't begrudge them their countless yawning, boring hours together.

For me, the weekend was superb - I did my project, and cleaned up a little. Sunday we took an impromptu trip to browse new housing communities. The houses were all really nice - and a few were just beautiful. They're all new, a few miles from Greenbelt, in I believe Glenn Dale or some other small area. The main place we looked was Fairview Meadows or some such meaningless name - a 10 year project of 3500 homes, mostly single family from the look of it. Impressive planned community. Another place we looked was Woodmoor North - 1 acre "estates" - McMansions really. I generally hate such things but I'll tell you, after you walk around inside one, they really begin to appeal.

Unfortunately, the prices have more than doubled over the last 3 years, staying beyond our reach. I would like to get one, as just the increase in home value is like adding a second income. Actually, the house would be "earning" more than I do at my job! Nonetheless this is impossible just now. Perhaps if we run into an extra, oh, $100k we could do it. Absent that, we'll need to make the Chabah business, my poker "career" (LOL!), or something else pay off. Yin returning to work is not an option in my book, as that would completely defeat the purpose.

Anyway, even though we can't act on the information, I found the house hunting to be very fun - especially on a perfect Fall day when Artemis could run around the houses and up and down the carpeted stairs to her heart's content.

I assume you all know that my goal in life is spoiling Artemis. I've been doing a good job but a new house would really be a stride! Her stock account, which more than doubled last year, is up a healthy 25% this year so I'm looking after her interests, as well.
