What I Think I Know

by Damien Del Russo

Tuesday, June 8th

Here's Artemis enjoying one of the many local parks along with some friends, Jasmine and Acacia. It was a perfect day!

Monday, June 7th

Whew, I've been pretty out of it. Between watching the NBA conference championships, playing online poker, and drinking, I've kept pretty busy lately. But I'm getting back on track (NBA late games are almost over!) and plan to post updates daily again - mostly photos but maybe a real post or two. There are some things that have been grating on me a bit, so it may be time to sharped a pencil or two.

For today, I'll just remark that Ronald Reagan passed this weekend. It's not really sad, considering his condition, but it is a good time to reflect upon perhaps the most important president of the last 50 years. It's hard for me to judge Reagan, as I was politically unaware at that time. It will be interesting to see the various reactions to Reagan's death - he was a very popular president, but most ABB (Anybody But Bush) folks are also vehemently anti-Reagan. Showing their stripes just now, aside from being crass, may not be in their best interests.

I'd like to relay a comment I heard Saturday night, waiting in line at Chipotle. A youngish college student ahead of me heard from his friend that Reagan had passed, and without much apparent though remarked "You know what they should do is? They should drop his body over Iraq and let them tear it up, then send the video to Nancy." What an incredibly cruel, ignorant, and crude sentiment. It doesn't deserve comment, but I do hope that when this chap's father passes, he remembers his cruel remark, and as a more mature adult is ashamed. As he should be. When people put politics above decency they poison both politics and public discourse. In this case, it was disgusting.
