What I Think I Know

by Damien Del Russo

OK, so much for a new site design for 2004. Maybe I'll get it in by the 1 year anniversary of the launch...

The kitchen is in shambles, but most of the applicances are delivered, and the cork flooring arrived today. Wow, does it look great - I'll post photos of the installation as time and technology permit. Next up, purchases of tile, installation of the plywood countertop, and, ugh, construction of the new bathroom wall. It should be simple, but unfortunately the walls are hand crafted plaster-type stuff over metal mesh, which makes breaking them down a real task. But, it will be done. It must be done.

OK, lots of good writing floating around so lets link.

What you can't say. Excellent writing.

And while we're on the subject of what can't be said, a look at what the 1st amendment isn't.

I like Kristof's approach to religion, and this is a decent if somewhat confused article. What annoyed me, however, is this improper mixture of fact and opinion:

To me, nonetheless, it seems hypocritical of Mr. Bush to claim (as he did in the last campaign) that Jesus is his favorite philosopher and then to finance tax breaks for the rich by cutting services for the poor. If Dr. Dean should read up on Job, Mr. Bush should take a look at the Sermon on the Mount.
Kristof should realize that his view of tax cuts as favoring the rich is biased - some people think in terms of absolute dollars (Kristof), while others look at the percentage of income paid and the percent of the overall tax burden (most conservatives). Both are valid but neither is strictly true - unlike a fact (Bush citing Jesus actually happened). For the amount of compensation and prestige the NYT editorialists garner, one could expect more careful writing and editing.

Apple has re-released an ad, with *maybe* a couple tweaks...I saw the Stevenote, and iLife is simply the best package for handling all the personal photos, movies, and music you can manage to gather and/or create. Wow. Squared.

Finally, another nuanced and well-written essay about Al Gore and his fall from (even Democrat) grace.

For some of my writing, check out Brian's coverage of an email I wrote him concerning the Left, idealism, and niceness.
