What I Think I Know by Damien Del Russo
Alright, first let me recycle a couple links: photos from Artemis' birth and the humorous July 4th movie I put together.
The New York Times has an incredibly naive opinion piece advocating a direct charge for garbage removal in New York. While it makes sense as an idea, as a system it unrealistic - it creates a huge incentive to dump garbage anywhere but your own trash can. Litter, anyone?
Also a study relayed on Gizmodo:
Yes, but you can hang up a phone. Intoxication can't go away when one encounters traffic. I'm sure some ridiculous do-gooder jurisdictions will employ a ban (Bloomberg in New York is a good candidate), but I doubt we'll see anything widespread.
There's a new television show, Keen Eddie, which I really like. The main character, Eddie, is a New York (see, I have a theme today haha) cop working for Scotland Yard in London. The backstory is a little unbelievable, but the show does not take itself too seriously.
The production of the show is sort of flashy, lots of quick explanatory back cuts at the end of scenes, and some hallucinations a la Ally McBeal. It also reminds me a lot of an old comedy from my teens, Parker Lewis Can't Lose. That show was also funny and clever, with somewhat innovative camera cuts and angles. Unfortunately it was also frequently shuffled around the schedule and cancelled before too long.
I caught the new Keen Eddie tonight, but only because of my Tivo. Fox changed the night without warning, and I was wondering where the show went on Tuesday, when it normally plays. But you probably know I love Tivo already, so I won't elaborate.
Back to the show. I like the funny bits - the first episode had Eddie's cop partner take him to a modern bar that turned out to be a rollicking young swingers' haven. Only, his partner wasn't married or even in a couple - he just a girlfriend accompany him so they could get into the exclusive club. The scenes within, while perhaps unrealistic, were...interesting. Other episodes have a host of interesting criminals, many exhibiting less than impressive intelligence. The actual detective aspects of the show are pretty quick and predictable, but the show is nonetheless fresh summer fare.
Check it out!
Have a great weekend, see you with new photos on Monday.
