What I Think I Know

First, a big birthday shout-out to my baby mama. Unfortunately, she doesn't read this page, so I'll need to do something else for her birthday, like giving her gifts or something.

Cooking continues to go well this week, especially as our friends brought dinner on Wednesday (Mary) and Thursday (Erin, Alivia, and Jenn). Although it may make my culinary apprenticepieces look bad in comparison, it is much appreciated. Thanks!!!

Some good stuff going around the web today. First, there is some post-hoc justification for all you wankers out there.

Mark Steyn insists on making sense every time he puts fingers to keyboard. This time, it's a good round-up of the most recent "Bush Lied" campaign. Short version: he didn't.

A couple days ago, I ranted about Volkswagen offering an MP3 car stereo. Well, it looks like the VP of marketing must be a What I Think I Know reader, because today I read this report on Gizmodo:

Pods Unite # Category: Portable Audio
Somehow this isn't surprising: Apple and Volkswagen have teamed up, and are going to start giving away 15GB iPods with the purchase of a 2003 New Beetle car. It'll be a special edition iPod custom-engraved with Volkswagen's "Drivers Wanted" slogan and a connectivity kit for use in the car.

All I can say is...wise move. Oh, and PSHYEAH!

Today was a very good day. Not only did I install the two missing screws required to assemble our new glider, but I also managed to hold Artemis in a comfy spot in the yard for about an hour. Just baby and daddy, lounging in a chair, enjoying the summer.

So, perhaps I wasn't working towards any goals today. But I didn't need to - if we're usually working towards some payoff, then that golden hour together was reward time. Whatever constructs we can create, accumulating stuff, getting a bigger and better house, earning a higher salary - it all seems to me to be working towards an ideal of some sort. And today, I got to enjoy a slice of that ideal without doing any work - just soaking in a bit of life.

And then she craps her diaper and lets out a long waaaa-hic-waaaa-hic combination, and it's time to yield cloud 9 and return to earth.

A very good day, indeed.
